When life gives you leaves, take pictures of them!

Fall is by far, the prettiest season to shoot in. The leaves provide a beautiful background for any picture. Whether you are shooting on a high-tech camera or an iPhone, you can capture all the beauty that fall has to offer with these simple tips we have for you:

Tip 1: Trees are an obvious subject when it comes to shooting in the fall. Whether you're shooting in the woods or in a busy city, you're most likely around trees. If you can, find them with as much fall color as possible, but if you're in a situation where that's not the case, then go for the simplicity of repeated patterns of things like tree trunks.

A lone tree could be used for a minimalistic shot. These types of shots will always stand out among your other social media posts because the negative space draws attention to your subject. Try to eliminate any distractions in the photo to make sure your getting the full minimalist effect. Experiment with the placement of the tree, try placing it in the center of the frame or even using the rule-of-thirds to. Even adding a person in the scene, it helps tell a more interesting story!

Tip 2: Shoot leaves against the sky. The bright blue sky compliments the rich orange leaves. Try shooting on a day when there are no clouds in the sky to prevent them from over-taking the image. Also try shooting when the leaves are at the brightest but haven’t fallen. Leave a little empty space so you can see the color contrast between the sky and the tree.

Tip 3: Even if you missed the trees when they were bright and colorful, don’t worry because the leaves on the ground can be just as attractive. As we all know, leaves come in a shapes, sizes and colors. Try shooting them in a simple pattern, varying in appearance. You could use your leaves as the foreground of your photo with something in the background to make it more mysterious and dramatic.

Tip 4: Outdoor portraits can be a lot of fun to capture! There are many scenes you can set for the photos, the subject lying on the ground surrounded by leaves, standing in front of an apple tree, or even just something as simple as holding a handful of leaves. You don’t have to photograph your subject’s full body, simple shots can be just as powerful. Try color matching your subject to the background to create a perfect harmony. Play around with filters, tools and interesting subject matter to help you create the perfect image for your fall album!

As always, happy picture taking :)
